"Karin Fay, is an international traveler," says D.B. Pacini." "Her generosity is astounding.
She helps support a children's deaf school in Ecuador with art supplies and money, she helps
finance medical services for native Eucadorian people, she sponsors a boy in Africa, and she
finances the college education for a young woman in Chile."
"When I first wrote the Emma's Love Letters short story, Karin and her
husband, Charles Rankin, were two of the five friends who encouraged me to expand
the short story into a novel. I based the Katia character on Karin.
Katia is fictional and the Ecuadorian orphanage is fictional, but they are inspired by Karin and
the Eucadorian deaf school she supports."
"Thanks to Karin and Charles, I've had many Eucadorian photographs available to me to inspire
my imagination as I wrote my scenes. Karin and Charles each gave me
creative suggestions also. They are wonderful people."
