ABOUT THIS POETRY SERIES

OUR APPRECIATION TO LODI PUBLIC LIBRARY FOR CO-SPONSORING THIS SERIES.

Purpose:
The purpose of this ongoing poetry reading venue is to provide a comfortable environment to seasoned poets and to provide a supportive place for new poets to be encouraged. Since September 2011, we have included some acoustic music performances.

Community:
Poetry is often a solitary endeavor. This series offers poets and the community the opportunity to enjoy poetry together.

Format:
This series is a poetry event with featured poets and then open mic poetry readings. Our featured poets generally read for twenty minutes. We then take a refreshment/social break. After the break we have five minute open mic poetry readings and sometimes acoustic music performances. We don’t wish to censor material, but we ask readers and musicians to keep in mind that ours is an audience that may include children and young people. Poets/musicians are asked to be sensitive to this when choosing their materials. We also request that there be no shouted out remarks during a reading or music presentation that could be distracting to the poet, musician, or to other audience members.

Complimentary Books:
Each featured poet will be offered a basket of books to select one book as our gift to them for reading at this series. We will have one free door prize and the audience guest that wins the door prize will be offered the basket and allowed to select one book as a gift.

Selling:
Authors and musicians may inform audience members that they have books or music CDs available for purchase. Authors and musicians must have seller’s permits and will be responsible for applying appropriate sales tax.
