1:45 P.M. Featured poets, open mic poets, and acoustic musicians
interested in signing up arrive.
2:00 P.M. Host/Hostess introduces featured poet.
Featured poet reads for approximately 20 minutes. Featured poets with
accompanying music will have approximately 25 minutes. We regret that we must
limit our featured poets to 25 minutes because we usually have a large number of
open mic poets.
Refreshment/social break.
Open mic poets or acoustic musicians have five minute turns.
4:15 P.M. Host/Hostess thanks everyone and makes announcements.
Phones: It is necessary for certain people to have their cell phones on at all times.
We ask these people to please set their phones on vibrate. We ask everyone else to please
turn their phones off and enjoy the readings.
Etiquette: There are not many opportunities for a poet to share his/her work with
a public audience. In the spirit of being respectful we ask everyone to remain quiet
and to listen to our poets when they are reading.
Children:
Children may attend this event. We ask parents to make sure that their children do not run
around or become disruptive. If a child wishes to recite/read a poem or perform an acoustic
song please tell us so we can schedule them appropriately. We usually have complimentary coloring
pages and free crayons to give to children so they can color and draw quietly during our events.
Drugs/Alcohol: This is a drug and alcohol free event at a public library.
Punctuality: It is inevitable; people will arrive late. We urge poets, musicians, and guests
to make every effort to arrive on time. Arriving late can be an interrupting distraction.
